How I work as a wedding videographer.

The wedding videography process

Bride and bridesmaids during bridal preps.

Preps.

I’ll turn up to the main preps around 3 hours before the ceremony. I’ll have a quick chat with everyone, then start some candid filming like a ninja. This normally takes around 30 to 40 mins, during which I’ll capture some detail shots of the dresses/kilts, flowers, etc, and family and friends having fun and getting make-up.

Ceremony.

After the preps I’ll head to where the ceremony will be taking place, chat to the officiant and staff then set up my cameras on their tripods. When the first partner shows up, I’ll attach a small mic recorder to their lapel or dress (garment permitting). I’ll then start filming the guests arriving.

Candids.

After filming the ceremony and everyone has exited the ceremony area, I’ll ninja-film the guests mingling. I’ll do this for around 30 mins and also dip in and out of the family photoshoot to get the chatty and happy bits in between the poses. Always lovely stuff at this point.

Creative shoot.

After the wedding party shoot, the photographer and I will take the couple for a wander somewhere nearby. I’ll get the nice, natural shots in between the photo poses. This is when I get creative and sometimes quite excited if the light is awesome. I always share well with the photographer and never step on their toes.

Speeches.

Once I’ve acquired tonnes of candid shots, I’ll head over to the dining area and set up my cameras in discreet positions, normally as far from the action as possible as I have long lenses. Each speaker will be given a lapel recorder mic before everyone is called for dinner and speeches. Once the speeches are complete, I’ll down tools and have a break with the photographer.

A wedding dance photo.

Dancing.

After dinner, the guests will be mingling and merry, so I’ll be capturing those happy moments until around 15 minutes before the first dance. I’ll have my cameras set up in discreet positions at the side of the dance floor ready to capture the first dance and 4 dances after that. Once the first dance is done, I love to get creative, so you might see me weaving my way through the dance floor with a wee camera.

The Highlights.

Once I’ve completed all the editing, you’d receive the highlights video via a Vimeo link which is downloadable and shareable. All packages include a highlights reel!

The Cinematic Film.

If you book the Cinematic Package you’ll receive this film via Vimeo link the day after you get your highlights. Again, this one is downloadable and shareable.

The Full Feature.

After receiving either the Cinematic film and/or the Highlights, I’d email the Vimeo link to the epic, full-length version the day after.

Once the Full Feature film has been finalised, you’ll receive a Vimeo Showcase Page, which is a shareable presentation web page containing all of your films, all of which will be downloadable.
