The wedding started at 2pm at Blair Castle, Perthshire. We had a humanist ceremony which involved a sing-along (I’m On My Way, but the Proclaimers), our own vows and a handfasting ceremony. After the ceremony, we had a drinks reception with champagne and Dark’n’Stormy cocktails. Our guests enjoyed the drinks and piano man while we had a brief photo / video shoot. We sat down for our wedding breakfast in the ballroom, followed by the speeches. We cut our cake (a mountain / beach creation with a skiing bride and spear-fishing groom!) in the Banvie Hall, and then came through for our first dance and the ceilidh! Most of the guests made it until after midnight before getting the bus back to Pitlochry.
Blair proposed at Blair Castle on our way back to Edinburgh after visiting my parents in the Highlands, so it was already sentimental to us. When they mentioned that they catered for weddings, we arranged a look around. We were blown away by the beautiful setting and by the friendliness of the staff – nothing was too much trouble and we felt really well looked after.
The delight at seeing our flowers for the first time.
Seeing my gorgoous nephew and niece in their outfits.
Blair’s face when he saw me in the dress.
The bemused audience singing along to I’m On My Way during the ceremony, while the toddlers danced / wrestled in the aisle!
Saying aloud the vows we’d written for each other.
My Dad’s emotional speech which brought my Mum (and some of the audience) to tears!
Blair unexpectedly twirling me round and round during our first dance.
We decided not to have our wedding filmed, and about a month before I had a complete panic and told Blair I really wanted it filmed! I’d been talking to friends who said it was the best decision they’d made, and also read about people who really regretted not filming it. I’m so so happy that we did, and that we had Robert filming our day. He was practically invisible! (Exactly what we wanted) I thought that the video was something that we might watch once a year on our anniversary, but we’ve watched it loads of times already! I love seeing our vows, the speeches, and the dancing in particular. Our photos are stunning and we’re really happy with them, but some things can only be captured on video.
