Altskeith Country House Wedding

Gillian & Suzanne’s Wedding at Altskeith Country House.

Can you give us a run down of your wedding?
After a wonderful evening with close friends and family staying at Altskeith, our wedding morning was finally here. Our hairdresser and makeup artist arrived bright and early on a wet and windy morning but the atmosphere inside the house was warm with excitement. There were many bridesmaids and ushers ensuring both brides never crossed paths whilst the page boys were running around with excitement. Shortly before the ceremony the sound of bagpipes started and after a few photographs it was time to take to the aisle with Suzanne and her mum leading the way before Gillian and her dad followed. The ceremony was emotional and beautiful and we were now legally married. An afternoon tea themed champagne reception followed the ceremony where guests were first greeted by the new Mrs & Mrs before mingling in the lounge. Finally the sun made an appearance and we made our way to the beach for some photographs, taking in the gorgeous views of Loch Ard and Ben Lomond. It was now time for cutting the cake, which was made by Gillian, and a few speeches before the meal. A fantastic two course meal was served followed by a dessert table created by family and friends. After dinner we took the opportunity to go rowing on Loch Ard and spend a little time together before the evening guests arrived. Once they arrived we both took to the dance floor for our first dance, followed by a dance with our parents before the whole bridal party joined us. Everyone enjoyed the band and ceilidh as the dance floor was full into the small hours of the morning.

Why did you choose your wedding venue?
As we are both Scottish we wanted a venue which showed off some of the country’s amazing landscape. We visited Altskeith in spring 2014 and fell in love with the place straight away. The view over Loch Ard with Ben Lomond in the background makes it one of the most special places we have ever visited and we knew straight away that this was the venue for us. The house was in the middle of a renovation at the time of viewing but even then we still knew it was the right choice and that Alison and Yas had great plans for the house.

What do you remember most about your wedding day?
The ceremony was emotional and will always be very memorable to us both. However going out on the rowing boat after dinner was spectacular. We managed to get some quiet time during what was a very busy day. It was lovely just to have those minutes to ourselves overlooking Altskeith and seeing all of our guests mingling on the beach and outside the house. The weather was perfect and it was a gorgeous evening.

What made you decide to have your wedding filmed?
We love taking photos and trying to capture each moment, so we thought getting our wedding video would capture those extra special moments that a photo doesn’t quite show. It is also a great way for us to look back on our day with friends and family!
