Bluray – High Def – we’re there

We’ve finally added HD 1080 to our kit, slightly overdue yes, but we thought it was worth spending a bit of time testing out various cameras. We now have a winner, the Canon 7D, a hybrid slr/video camera. This camera is fast becoming the industry standard for a lot of film makers… it’s small, affordable, easy to use, shoots beautiful footage and can also be used as a professional photographic camera. I used a 7D to film a friend’s wedding and for the BBC in Edinburgh a few weeks ago, you can see some of the footage in the clip below.

A successful wedding show

What a wedding show! The Royal Concert Hall is by far the best one we’ve exhibited at this year… 8 bookings and several enquiries! The blue jelly beans were a big hit as was our special offer. Incidentally, I discovered the jelly beans flavour was “berry blue”… still none the wiser!
Anyway, it was great meeting loads of very nice exhibitors, brides-to-be, husbands-to-be and every other to-be that attented the show!

Following the photographer

At most weddings we film, the photographer takes the lead in order to create all the set ups. At Kate and Alan’s wedding the photographers, Craig and Eva Sanders, took the lead, very creatively, and used the surrounding grounds to their full potential. When this occurs we would shadow the photographer in order to capture some artistic close ups and wideshots and use them to create a montage. This is Kate and Alan’s mid DVD artistic montage accompanied by some classical music (which we’ve used before)

Well this is the first chance I’ve had to get back into work since my wife gave birth to our first wee one! A gorgeous little girl called Rose Sylvie MacDonald! She was born on the 2nd August at 2.06pm, 8lbs 9oz! Both mother and baby are doing great! Here’s a  pic of our wee Rose settling down for a nap with her new pal Ms Wabbit!

Two local weddings

We’ve been pretty busy the last few weeks, which is why the blog has suffered but now I’ve got a spare moment I can write about the last few weddings I filmed, two of which were local to me and my wife’s current home and our childhood homes!
The wedding on Thursday was held in New Lanark Mill Hotel, an absolutely stunning location. New Lanark is a World Heritage Site and is situated next door to Lanark which is where my wife grew up and near where I grew up in Crossford on the Clyde Valley. The hotel is a converted mill (as the name suggests) and is steeped in history. There is a fantastic short walk along the River Clyde from the World Heritage Site of New Lanark, passing waterfalls and a peregrine falcon watching area before the inland return route takes you through fields and woodland. The walk can be extended by following a waymarked additional route on the far side of the river. If you’re inviting friends to your wedding from abroad New Lanark is a great place to show off Scotland and also a great place for a long weekend break!

The wedding I filmed yesterday was in Shotts in St Patrick’s Church. Shotts is where my father-in-law grew up and I discovered that the father of the bride knew him – small world I know!! The reception was in the Bothwell Bridge Hotel which is 5 minutes from our current home! I’ve filmed a few functions in this hotel but none as big as this wedding… over 230 people! What an atomsphere! The band were brilliant, Playtone from Lanark, and kept the atmosphere going to the very end! A band I would highly recommend!

So to wrap up here’s a wee video of the falls of Clyde I found on YouTube.

Wedding in Carluke, reception in Biggar

Yesterday was a brilliant day! I filmed a wedding in St Athanasius and the reception in Cornhill House in Biggar. Both venues were great for capturing beautiful and artistic shots and both the bride and groom were great sports but the credit for setting up those shots has to go to the photographers Craig and Eva Sanders.
I worked along side them and apart from being a pleasure to work with they were brilliant company.
In my experience the wedding photographers can make a big difference to my working environment, Craig and Eva were no exception. I have seen their website and blog and I have to say I am impressed! Beautiful work and very nice website!
I hope our paths cross again!

Vintage Style

We had question from a member of the Scottish Wedding Directory Forum asking if the vintage style of footage we have on Nicola and Simon’s montage was in all of our vids and I explained it is not and it is normally only on request or if the editor feels it would work well with the music and footage. So to demonstrate both styles I have posted the same vid without the vintage style. I’m sure there will be a very mixed response…
